Misconceptions I had about the degree and the finance industry
Before commencing my studies at JIBS, I had very little exposure to the financial services industry in Jersey. Studying for the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree therefore enabled me to understand the complex industry to a greater extent. When first discovering that the degree was a fast track degree, I was conscious that it would be very challenging. However, the support system of staff and lecturers that JIBS possesses are on hand to help you with whatever you need, and as long as you have the dedication and determination within yourself, the degree is definitely achievable and definitely worthwhile.

Benefits of my UGEP placement at Vantage Limited
The opportunity to combine studying with working 2 days a week was one of the main factors that initially attracted me to JIBS. Learning new concepts in class and putting them into practice in the workplace helps you to understand the variety of modules in better depth. Partnering with a supportive company like Vantage Limited has ultimately been one of my highlights of the degree and I am very grateful to have been presented with the opportunity. Through a rotational work placement, I was able to gain valuable experience in a variety of departments, which may not have been possible without the UGEP scheme.

I stayed on Island – and had a memorable life experience
Despite staying on Island, the environment at JIBS still enables you to benefit from a range of non-academic aspects that are often associated with going away to study, such as meeting new people and having an enjoyable social scene. From poker nights to celebratory meals out, our cohort was able to support each other and have fun both inside and outside of JIBS and together have created a memorable life experience.

I can already see the different options that have opened up for me
The multitude of topics covered within the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree enabled me to discover which career path I wanted to explore. As I thoroughly enjoyed modules such as Risk Management and Governance and Compliance, I have since obtained a Trainee Compliance Administrator role within a respected Jersey firm, and believe that my degree has and will continue to open up a range of opportunities for myself in the years to come.
