Eleanor Pedley has recently accepted a place on the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree commencing this October. She shares with us her excitement for starting a new journey.
University, university, university. That’s pretty much all I heard throughout my sixth form years. The thought of going to the UK for me was daunting to say the least. With all of my family here on the Island the thought of leaving home was disconcerting to say the least.
After my A-levels, I took a year out to improve my grades and decide whether university was the right option for me. I also worked and gained some experience, and subsequently the thought of going back to “student life” was even less appealing.
After watching my friends go to university and end up coming back to Jersey I thought I would explore my options on island. That’s when I saw Jersey International Business School pop up on my Facebook page. To be honest, I thought it was too good to be true at first! So I went to one of the Open Evenings, and again I came out thinking I must be missing something here: an option to do a degree, in Jersey, with a work placement; why hasn’t everyone done this!
So I started my application process, and it went from there and an email from Katie Brunker appeared, and then I was being interviewed! I was so nervous for my interview, and yet walking into the business school Katie and Trystan made me feel as if I was already a student. From there, I got my offer and then the thought of getting my results felt ominous. When results day finally arrived I thought as a year older I wouldn’t be as scared as the others going to get their results, but no I still walked in shaking! I opened my envelope here we are…
I’ve always been quite practical throughout my learning so I think having the work placement alongside the degree will be perfect for me. Though I have loved being at work for the past year, I can’t wait to start my degree with Jersey International Business School, and to be getting back into a younger age group. Studying and being back in the classroom is exciting whilst still being able to stay in the professional environment with my work placement at Barclays, which is just perfect for me!
I start at JIBS on the 4th of October and the countdown has begun – a new beginning that I can feel happy and confident about.
