Danielle Connan has recently started 2nd year of the degree. In September, Danielle went to London on the annual City of London Field Trip.
On the recent City of London field trip with Jersey International Business School we had a very busy two days, visiting a number of interesting places for example the Royal Courts of Justice, Lloyds of London, Middle Temple and a tour of HSBC offices.
I really enjoyed seeing the buzz of the trading floor at Lloyds of London and seeing the sheer size of the building with a large number of workers and a large number of visitors every day. It is very strange to have to get your bag put through an X-ray machine before entering a building – completely different from an office in Jersey. It was also interesting to see where our studies could take us and the potential opportunities we have in the future.
On the Thursday night we all went out for a lovely meal and then continued onto many bars and clubs which took us to Covent Garden and beyond.
Moving onto second year is exciting as we are now so close to the end which also makes it scary as it is now time to start the search for jobs for the future and begin thinking what I would like to do. There are a number of new modules and new areas to be covered from risk, to financial crises and globalisation as well as law, portfolio management and ethics. I think the second year will bring more interesting topics and further interest into what was completed in the first year.
Going into the second year of placement as well at the States of Jersey will be interesting as I will be able to get more involved and will have more responsibility for the work. I look forward to working with a first year at placement, hopefully helping them with work and studies – advising them from what I did wrong and what I would have done differently, which hopefully they will find useful. I look forward to learning more about what I enjoy and what the future can bring.
